Alert: Increases the amount of shields generated.
Fragile: All shields gained are reduced by 25% (duration: loses 1 layer of duration per turn).
Slowness/Sluggish: Increases the arithmetica cost of a card

Stat Terms:
Realm Mastery: Impacts realm specific abilities: Chaos (increases aliemus gain on posse use), Aequor (impacts layers, shields generated or damage of tentacles depending on state), Caro (impacts shield and temporary strength with devour), Ultra (increases the chance to gain insight: gain 1 arithmetica and 1 card draw).
DMG Amplification: % increase of all base damage, also affects layers of poison, counterattack and initial tentacle damage.
Sigil Yield: Amount of black sigils that drop from enemy encounters.
Death Resistance: Chance to recover 1 life after fatal damage. Upon successful trigger, the % is halved (can trigger more than once) and gain 2 arithmetica and draw 2 additional cards next turn.

RE-ROLLING:
This is one of the few gacha style games that re-rolling is not necessary. This is because the game is quite free to play (F2P) friendly. You can earn a lot of pull currency from playing the game. On top of that as a new player you’ll also be given some character selectors that allow you to pick a character from the standard pool of units. The overall pull rates are quite generous and set a new standard that other games in the genre should follow. If you play semi-regularly, you’ll likely have quite a few characters even after 1 month of play.

COMBAT:
Combat revolves around the ‘deck’ that you put together along with various other elements that allow you to customize your team. Each character comes with a set of cards. Combine a team of characters to put together a deck. It’s a simple and intuitive system. You’ll also be able to upgrade your characters’ skills, exalts (ultimate) and eventually equip them with wheel of destinies (provide unique buffs) and a covenant (stat boost). On top of that you have a selection of posse skills that you as the commander can apply to further bolster your team. Altogether there is a vast array of combinations and synergies to explore.

Missions usually involve some exploration in a tile based map. These maps usually include regular and elite mobs as well as a boss encounter. Along the way you’ll come across various ways to modify your deck with items that can add various buffs or debuffs to your cards/deck. This makes every investigation (map) feel distinct and allows for a unique experience during each run.

TEAM BUILDING:
Factions
You can mix and match between any 4 different factions. Each faction comes with its own unique gameplay mechanic and in order to enjoy the full effects of it you’ll need to create either a mono team of characters purely from one faction or you can mix in characters from the Chaos faction that can join a team without incurring penalties.

Chaos: This team is versatile since they can fill slots on any team you want to play. A pure chaos team excels at generating aliemus (required to use an exalt aka ultimate skill). You’ll likely be using some of these characters in your other teams.

Aequor: This team is quite beginner friendly and one of the easiest teams to play when you are starting out. They come with a built in ability to deal damage (without playing cards) through tentacle damage. This damage happens after you play your cards but before the enemy acts. You can also modify what the tentacles do each turn either boosting their damage or producing shields. This allows you to protect your team or try to finish an enemy in any given round.

Caro: One of the more advanced teams. Usually requires the right combination of characters and investment. They have the ability to heal; however, many of the characters in this faction also cause damage to self. They can also generate an embryo. The embryo can then be used to boost exalts and generate a shield/strength or they can be consumed to provide a critical hit boost and aliemus. Overall, this faction can do quite a lot but usually requires a greater understanding of team building and careful play to mitigate self damage/lack of access to easy shields every turn.

Ultra: A powerful faction that has the ability to modify the first card played on a turn and also generate an extra turn and a chance to gain an insight (gain 1 arithmetica and 1 card draw, but the % chance will be dependent on your realm mastery). The first card played during each turn will be stored in the ultra space. If the card has a leap effect and is played first, the leap effect will trigger. Leap effects on certain cards are like having another ability on the card making them more versatile. Furthermore, taking an extra turn during a boss fight can be game changing. Similar to the Caro team, although it offers powerful options, it also usually requires the right team composition and investment in that team and a certain understanding of the game to full maximize its full potential. You need to be strategic about the first card played for every turn. Altogether, its one of the most fun factions to play when you understand how it operates.

Core Roles
For any team you put together there are general base components that will help. When selecting cards for your team you’ll likely fill certain roles, such as damage, damage mitigation and support (buffs/debuffs). You generally want to acquire some aspect of each role to form a balanced team. For example, a balanced team will have the ability to deal damage, shield or heal from damage and also buff their attack or debuff the enemy to reduce attacks. Most characters in this game come with cards that can potentially fill more than 1 of the mentioned roles. In addition, when evaluating a potential character, its helpful to examine how useful their kit (skills and exalt) and the synergy between your cards. Also, don’t underestimate the value of a characters exalt. Meaning the separation between useful units that match your team and those that don’t can often come down to how powerful and useful their exalt is in conjunction with their other skills.

General Tips
Select a core mechanic to build your team around to generate synergy. There are various mechanics that you can build your team around, such as tentacle damage, counterattack damage, poison, shield scaling etc. When putting together a team you’ll generally want to ensure that each character has good synergy around the mechanic your are building. Don’t underestimate the power of good support units that can buff and scale your main damage dealers power. It can take a good damage dealer to an elite level.

Buffs, Debuffs and Status Effects
Status effects can also have a powerful impact on damage and survivability. For example, status effects, such as weakness (reducing enemy damage) and reducing strength (also decreases damage) makes a significant difference in the amount of final damage you will take. Combine this with cards that provide a decent amount of shields and/or healing and you’ll be able to mitigate a lot of damage. In a similar way, you can also boost your burst damage windows with status effects like vulnerability (increases overall damage taken by enemies) or buffs like strength. These are just a few examples. Many characters also have abilities that will boost certain damage types built into their cards. Stacking these effects during a burst window will make a dramatic difference in your overall damage output.

Countering Multi-Hits
A powerful strategy to counter multi-hits from enemies is usually a combination of shields and counterattack damage. Counterattacks trigger on each hit, hence you can usually do massive damage to enemies with multi-hits if you have stacked counterattack. Supports that also bring counterattack can help immensely in your overall damage output especially in boss fights.

WHEEL OF DESTINY
As you progress, you’ll unlock the ability to equip up to 2 wheel of destinies to a character. These items provide additional abilities and stats. Most characters will often have specific wheels that they come with upon release. Most of the character specific wheels are their best in slot but not always. There are also some wheels that standout and can be used in a variety of teams. For example, Dusk and Dawn (can be acquired from the shop) provides keyflare (resource for your posse) at the end of every turn. By stacking cards that give you more keyflare you can use your posse skill much more often. It makes a dramatic difference in how combat feels.

Another underestimated stat that you can get from wheels is realm mastery. Realm mastery will boost faction specific abilities. For instance, for the Aequor faction, increasing realm mastery can boost your shields or tentacle damage. For Caro, it can boost the shield that is created with devour. Overall, increasing realm mastery can turn your team from struggling to survive to having enough damage mitigation to easily clear a stage. In the end when selecting wheels for your team, you’ll want to examine what the character role is (damage, mitigation or support) and build around those attributes while also looking to add unique buffs to the team such as keyflare resource.

A further element to consider for more damage is strength. Various wheels will be able to provide some source of strength stacking. This is often overlooked and underestimated especially for longer and more challenging fights. The more strength that you stack the more damage that you will do. Many main DPS units in this game will benefit greatly from strength.

A defensive option in tough encounters is death resistance. There are also a variety of wheels that can give you more death resistance. This won’t be as big of a factor for easy content, but in fights that you are struggling with even 1 save with death resistance can be the difference from winning or losing a battle. Altogether, by carefully consider which wheels to use you can strength or adapt your team for the specific fight.

COVENANT
Covenant are additional items that give stat boots and a set bonus. These also unlock later as you continue to level up your account. Similar to wheels, you’ll want to select the covenant set that matches the characters role. Certain skill bonuses make a massive difference to specific roles. For example, there are some that can boost your shield. Combine it with a wheel that also boosts shields and now you have shield cards that are much stronger than their base level attribute. This concept can also be applied to the other roles, such as damage. There are also unique covenants that can do things like increase arithmetica (more resource to play more cards). It’s a powerful ability that you’ll likely want to consider for most teams. Additionally, there are covenants that can boost things like key flare or aliemus. These too can have a significant impact on your team.

POSSE
Posse are the commander specific abilities that you can use to help your team. You can also unlock new posse skills by completing various characters’ side stories. There’s quite a variety of abilities that can work with a wide array of teams. In the beginning, abilities that allow you to gain aliemus (resource for characters to perform their exalt) and those that allow you to gain extra arithmetica (to play more cards) can be used on a variety of teams. Similar to your selection of wheels and covenants you want to select a posse that matches the focus of the team.

Some useful posse to unlock early are from the side story quests. This includes posse such as from Helot – Catena (draw 2 random cards from a selected character) and Ramona Timeworn (select 1 card from your draw pile and reduce its cost by 1). These type of abilities allow you to gain access to specific cards when you need them and allow you to perform certain combos. For example, with Ramona’s posse you can play a card, use the posse and draw the same card again. It can be a very powerful combo depending on the card and team.

CHARACTER TIER LIST:

This is a simplified tier list made for beginners who are just starting out. Every character is not listed here. Instead it includes characters from each faction that usually standout in their role. It gives a new player an idea of what units to aim for when they are deciding to pull. If a unit is not listed, it does not mean they are not viable. Many units in this game are usable in the right team setup. This list is based on my own experience as well as the list from here.

When you are starting out, it is generally recommended to get Chaos units (since they can fit on any team without penalty) and Aequor units (since they are usually the easiest team to build due to tentacles having the ability to attack and/or generate shields). Caro and Ultra teams usually require specific units and more investment. This is only a general guideline. Build the teams you enjoy and have fun playing. Resources are limited in the beginning, so it is usually best to focus on a specific team first before branching out. Resources are usually invested in a good damage carry and units that can provide sufficient damage mitigation.

As you approach end game, such as Regional D, you’ll be putting together multiple teams (5 teams of 4 with no re-used units). Meaning, eventually you’ll be using a wide range of units (not just top tier units). Getting duplicates (enlighten) can dramatically transform a unit. Overall, the real end game is really about experimenting and testing a wide range of teams and characters. Many are viable with the right investment (duplicates) even if they aren’t in a specific tier list. Have fun and test out different compositions that allow you to play the way you want.

Morimens Tier List
Morimens Tier List

CHAOS:
Hameln – One of the strongest units in the game with good burst damage and keyflare charge. Adds utility by being able to apply recurring melody (card triggers 2x) to a card.
Tawil –Large damage potential and the ability to pay for skills with keyflare. Can also generate keyflare.
24 – A versatile unit that functions slightly differently depending on the faction they are paired with. A useful unit in a variety of teams. Can provide good damage and utility (such as arithmetica cost reduction).
Nautila – One of the most recommended units for a new account. Nautila does a bit of everything. Provides shields and a large amount of significant temporary counterattack in boss encounters. On top of that she can also provide an ally with aliemus. A pretty solid unit for a variety of teams. Nautila transforms with her over exalt providing a good source of burst damage that can significantly improve the overall DPS of a team.
Ryker – Has a card draw ability, but can be subject to more random variability due to kit design.
Lily – Her ability to not only stack poison but also trigger it is quite nice especially on poison focused teams. Can also provide some healing and burst damage.
Karen – Her exalt allows you to play a 0 cost card to gain additional arithmetica (up to 3X). The ability to play more cards can be game changing.
Ramona – A free unit that you can also acquire many of her enlightens (duplicates) by playing through the campaign. She can be quite powerful depending on the team and provides a versatile kit. She can do burst damage, generate keyflare, gain arithmetica, reduce enemy strength and pull any card from your draw pile and play it at 0 cost. Even though there are other more powerful units her unique and varied abilities can find a place in many teams.
Ramona Timeworn (Genesis) – Can be unlocked as you progress through the game. Provides a lot of unique utility. Can access any posse, draw cards, provide strength or reduce enemy strength, generate keyflare or arithmetica. She can be a great fit depending on the team especially for those that need to access certain cards at the right time.
Doll: Inferno (not pictured): A very powerful support that can be used in a variety of teams. Provides versatility in being able to provide allies with aliemus, damage amplification, poison, burst damage and healing while reducing enemy strength.

AEQUOR:
Miryam
– A powerful support that does a bit of everything. Can stack poison, provide a large amount of aliemus to an ally (one of the highest in the game), provide power and tentacle damage boost.
Tulu – A solid choice to generate tentacles and boost their damage.
Caecus – A unit that can stack counterattack and also boost tentacle damage. A solid support unit that can give your team more tankiness while dealing with multi-hit enemies.
Sanga – A DPS in disguise as a support unit. Sanga provides shields, but is also secretly an insane burst damage nuker. If you setup a team that can stack shields (ex. Nautila), her exalt can shred bosses. There are many options to stack shields in the game so she can fit in a variety of teams.
Goliath – A primary damage dealer that generally is used for more utility as you get more powerful damage carries later. Goliath’s exalt gives you strike cards. This can be combined with a wheel that reduces enemy strength allowing more utility and defense options.
Corposant (not pictured) – A very powerful unit that can do a bit of everything from being a damage carry to providing an abundance of shields at 0 cost. Corposant focuses on providing temporary tentacles for large burst damage. She can also generate a lot of aliemus allowing for more frequent exalts.

CARO:

Thais – Can trigger devour effects twice and provide support while also applying poison, bleed and counterattack and giving an ally aliemus.
Salvador – Can provide a massive amount of shields or burst damage as well as a barrier. A solid defensive unit that can also provide a burst damage nuke.
Agrippa- A poison unit for the Caro faction.
Faint – Provides the Caro team with the feeling of being immortal. Faint’s exalt boosts death resistance and if you can cast it consistently, you’ll be able to cheat death. With investment, can also stack counterattack to shred multi-hit enemies.
Aigis – Applies vulnerability. Exalt can be significant as it disrupts an enemy for a turn preventing them from acting. Depending on the fight it can be a game changer.
Helot: Catena (not pictured) – Massive damage potential but can feel fragile and usually requires the right time in order to be able to survive. With the right team setup can easily output very high damage.
Helot: Can be an option early on if you don’t have a damage dealer in this faction. Must be equipped with wheels and covenants that sync with her exalt and benefits quite a bit from power/vulnerability. Can produce a lot of damage, but requires other support units and the right setup.

ULTRA:
Horla
– Versatile unit that can switch forms to increase damage, generate shields, counter attack, apply poison and generate or reduce strength of allies and enemies.
Winkle – A core part of many Ultra teams for her exalt that can provide an ally with aliemus. Can also provide a surprising amount of shields due to leap.
Wanda – Applies counterattack and can reduce enemy power.
Daffodil – One of the most versatile exalts in the entire game. She can do a bit of everything with the amount of options that her exalt brings to the table, such as burst damage, gaining arithmetica or aliemus or applying weakness or pulling a specific card etc. Furthermore, with the right teammates and setup the amount of inspiration (draw 1 card and obtain 1 arithmetica) and strength (with enlightens aka character duplicates), draw card and arithmetica you can obtain sky rockets allowing you to play a large amount of cards and deal out high burst damage. Requires the right team and investment.
Tinct – An underrated component from the Ultra faction but one that can enable it to reach greater heights especially early on. Tinct is a support unit that boosts critical hit rate, steals strength and can reduce the cost of 5 cards with her exalt. This can enable the ultra team to play a lot of cards especially during their extra turn.
Castor (not pictured) – A hybrid character that can provide shields and burst damage/boost the damage of your team. Castor brings a welcomed defensive skill set to the Ultra team with the ability to provide shields easily. He also comes with a unique corrosion mechanic that can increase the damage of an attack. It functions the best with other characters that can multi-hit. In this way, he enables units that may otherwise not be as viable, such as Liz or Jenkins or any other unit that can hit multiple times in one attack. He also provides a surprisingly decent amount of burst damage at 0 arithmetica cost.
Liz – Usually requires the right team (for example with Castor and Doll: Inferno to provide a very strong damage boost), but can become an absolute beast with multi-hit and poison. If you are using Castor and Liz, the damage numbers that are displayed in the total (top right) do not calculate the actual damage when you perform her exalt. Instead, look at the damage on the enemy HP bar to see exactly how much is being dealt. Castor and Doll: Inferno bring Liz, a DPS that was seldom used to a whole new level. Easily one of the most fun units with the right team that can shred enemies.

Pulling for Units:
This game is quite generous towards players. You can evaluate most gachas not just based on their pull rates/pity mechanics but by the sense of how easily or not it is to actually obtain a unit based on the amount of currency you can get in relation to the rates. In this case, if you just play the game regularly and save your currency there’s a very good chance you’ll get the units you want. You can also obtain duplicates once a month from the shop meaning its important to get at least 1 pull but you aren’t necessarily forced to go for multiple pulls of the same unit if you don’t want to. Hence if you plan your pulls appropriate you’ll have the resources to get most of your desired units. On top of that, new units are eventually added to the general unit pool (albeit after around a year). This means you’ll likely get most if not all of the units eventually. Even after 1 month of play you’ll have a good amount of most of the core standard pool units. In addition, you also get unit and wheel selectors.

The overall pull system can be a bit tricky. Usually for a featured banner, you are guaranteed an SSR every 30 pulls (it will generally have a 1/3 chance to be the featured unit) with a hard pity at 90 pulls (meaning in the worst case scenario that you miss the featured SSR at 30 and 60 it will take 90 total pulls). This means that its important to be selective and plan before you pull. Moreover, some banners can be very tempting, such as those that feature a large list of limited SSRs. However, since the range of featured units includes many units it can be difficult to get the exact one you want. In my experience, its been better to pull on featured banners that have 1 limited unit only.

Character and Wheel Selectors:

As a new player, you’ll be able to earn unit and wheel selectors by playing the game. It can be tempting to use them right away, but you may want to hold them until you know the exact unit you want for your team. A good way to do this is by testing the character out in the Interlude Awaker Trial. You’ll be able to demo a unit at level 50. It’s not only a good way to see the playstyle and strengths/weaknesses of a unit but you can also gain pull tickets. I would say the most useful and versatile character in the current regular pool is Nautila from the Chaos faction. Being from Chaos allows her be to paired with any other faction. She also brings good defensive abilities in the form of shields and counterattack. Outside of Nautila, the other standout units are Winkle if you enjoy the Ultra playstyle or Sanga (shields and burst damage) or Caecus (counterattack) from Aequor.

HOW TO LEVEL YOUR ACCOUNT:
Playing events is one of the fastest ways to level up your account as there is usually an experience boost. Otherwise just by playing the game and going through the campaign (and completing hard difficulty missions) you’ll level up. Progress may be slow at first, but as you play more events you’ll level up quite quickly.

HOW TO GAIN RESOURCES, PULL TICKETS & PREMIUM CURRENCY:
There are numerous ways to gain pull currency and resources. The main way is by playing through the story campaign and completing missions in the Manual. You can also earn pull currency from completing daily/weekly missions, pvp, Phantasmal Dive and Regional D (both unlock as you progress your account). Moreover, you can complete the story missions on hard difficulty, the interlude awakener trials (permanent pool characters) and side story missions (e.g. Special Ops and Psyche Deep Dive). If you have gotten to the point where you have leveled up your core teams and have some extra EXP resources, then you can also look at leveling up extra characters. As you level them up, you’ll also gain pull tickets from them. Altogether, there are quite a few ways to gain pull currency especially as a new player.

USE THE SUPPORT FEATURE:
In many combat encounters you can borrow a support from your friends list. This can help you clear a lot of content. In order to do this, you will need to start adding friends. Many people in this game understand this feature and will usually allow you to add them. In a lot of cases, you’ll likely borrow a very high level DPS unit to carry your team (level 70 or higher). Popular choices are units such as Helot-Catena, Tawil, 24, Corposant etc. You can also look at strong support units like Doll: Inferno or any other unit that you need to bolster your team. Many choices will work especially for higher units that are built (duplicates, higher skill levels).

IF YOU ARE STRUGGLING:
Battles can be challenging as this is a game that requires the player to balance both offense and defense. Resources are more limited in the beginning so it is best to focus on one core team first before branching out into multiple teams. This means focusing on leveling up the characters and skills (up to level 3 for most and selectively higher for your favorite units), wheels and covenants of that team. Use the Interlude Awaker Trial mentioned in the previous section to test out units. You’ll also want to examine your team composition. As stated previously, you’ll want to make sure you look at the core roles on a balanced team – having damage, damage mitigation and support (buff/debuff). This means having a core damage carry with good overall damage potential (this may also involve counterattack damage), shields or healing to mitigate damage and cards that can buff your damage (e.g. vulnerability or strength) and/or debuff the enemy (weakness or strength reduction).

You’ll also want to examine your wheels and covenants to make sure they are boosting your characters and their roles appropriately. For example, boosting shields on your supports and boosting critical hit or critical damage on your damage carries. Furthermore, don’t underestimate adding wheels or covenants that help generate keyflare or impact arithmetica/aliemus or increase realm mastery. These options can allow your team to exalt more often, play more cards and boost your realm specific power.

Lastly, during an investigation don’t underestimate the modifiers you can add to cards and the relics you pick up. You can optimize your damage and cover weaknesses through your selection of the card modifiers and relics. Careful consideration and selection will make a significant difference. Don’t be afraid to experiment. As you gain more experience, you’ll refine your skill in this area to be able to bolster any team.

STRONG EARLY GAME BASE:
If you are having issues in the early game, you can focus on an Aequor/Chaos team. Characters, such as Nautila and Sanga can be a powerful early game combination. Firstly, the Aequor team provides easy access to shields and additional damage (in the form of tentacle damage). Nautila is a strong support that offers shields, counter attack damage and aliemus. It’s an exceptionally strong kit for a variety of fights. Sanga also provides shields, but is secretly a powerful DPS nuker especially early on. She can easily out damage other early DPS if you can stack enough shields. Give her a wheel that boosts exalt damage and you can melt early bosses. Nautila is a good teammate with Sanga since she can increase shields by 50% with her exalt. This is a good base to build around that provides defense (shields) and damage (counter attack, tentacle and Sanga’s exalt). This is just one example, if you are having issues. Many combinations are viable so feel free to try different options.

CODES:
Here are a list of codes for new players that include various resources and pull currency. They provide a good amount of resources when first starting your account. They were active when I started my account; however, this may or may not apply when you decide to start the game.

HVGX-HLDX-QKKN
QKBQ-SSDG-JZYU
DC5000
SILVERKEY
CATSGIFT

CLOSING THOUGHTS:
Morimens is a deeply satisfying game that gives its players a wide array of options when it comes to building and customizing teams. It can be daunting at first for a new player to learn all the intricate details. But as you progress through the campaign, you’ll gain all the skills, knowledge and experience needed to build a team that you enjoy playing. A wide array of teams and units are viable even if they aren’t the current meta. Be creative and have fun.
