Morimens is an amazing and well crafted deck building visual novel game set in a cosmic horror environment. It’s a title that has mostly flown under the radar due to it being a small indie game in a niche genre. However, gameplay and visual design wise it’s one of the best in the deck building category. This article will go through the top reasons why now is the best time to jump in. For a review of the game check out this article and for a beginners guide check out this article.
TOP REASONS TO CHECK OUT THIS GAME:
1. Solid Deckbuilding Gameplay:
The developers understand what makes a good deck building game. It’s obvious they have study traditional deck building games in the genre and built the core from there. This is evidenced in each character’s kit with certain categories of cards that are similar. For example, each unit usually has a strike (attack) and a defense card. This then allows you to combine various characters to form a deck while gaining access to enough offensive or defensive cards in a draw. In addition, the interactions between characters and factions is intriguing. You can build different types of decks from poison, to counter-attack, bleed, shield damage to strike builds. The variety and interaction continues to expand as more characters are added to the game. Specific faction abilities are also interesting and allow for a completely different playstyle.
2. Incredible Visual Art Design:
The art style is amazing. It’s some of the best in its genre and in gaming in general. There’s a craftsmanship and artistry here that is not always seen. Characters and settings are unique. Imagery is expressive, poignant, sad and riveting. You feel the sense of pain or anguish or joy the characters experience through their visual representation. I firmly believe that art design is the first thing you’ll notice about a game that will either draw you in or turn you away. It’s the first pillar that sets the stage for everything else that follows. It’s often an underrated but significant foundation to build upon.
3. Version 2.4 Updates for the 2nd Anniversary
The 2nd anniversary brings with it a generous amount of rewards and quality of life updates. Here’s a list of the more significant rewards/changes:

4. It’s Free:
The game is 100% free. You don’t need to spend anything to enjoy the game. If you plan and save your currency, you have the ability to obtain units that you want. You’ll need to be selective but you should be able to get your desired character. It’s also quite generous in terms of rewards and pulls compared to most free to play titles on the market.
5. Developer Updates
For the most part the game is heading in the right direction. This is evidenced with the focus on quality of life improvements, the standard pool expansion and new covenants that allow for more team compositions. The development team is responding and adapting to requests. It’s a smaller team so it does take time. No developer is perfect, nor can they satisfy everyone. But this is one of the titles that is making steps towards creating a better overall experience for its players.
CLOSING THOUGHTS:
If you enjoy a story focused deck-building game with solid gameplay mechanics, Morimens should be on your list of games to try. It’s free to play and with the 2nd anniversary coming up, it’s the perfect time to jump in.
